FALL 06 CP MEET Aug 20th

So last Fall before the start of my CP, a group of us had a meet the night before check-in at Downtown Disney. We ate at the Rainforest Cafe and then walked around DTD afterwords for a bit. The meet went very well and I even got a roommate out of it. I would love to do the same thing this fall if anyone would like to join in.

The meet will be held the night before my check-in (21st) on the 20th (Sunday) at Downtown Disney. I was thinking we could eat at the Rainforest again orrrrrrrrr just go for a snack at Wetzels Pretzels on the west side as they server Hagen-Dazs ice cream also. I was thinking of meeting up around 6-7, depending on what is best for everyone.

All types of CPs (Soon to be, Current, Alumni) and their Family/friends are welcomed.

Also because I will be posting this on a few message boards, keep an eye on this page for the more up-to-date info: http://wdwcp06.wordpress.com/meets/

Housing Contract

With any housing complex housing thousands of college kids (many living away from home for the first time) it is a good idea to set some ground rules. Posted below is the housing contract that is found in the 2005 College Program Resource Guide, and the same thing CPs had to sign during check-in during the 2005 year. While the contract seems long, it is very basic rules that everyone should follow anyways. The rules stated here are enforced but they are very reasonable expectations. I am posting this so you will know what is expected of you when you are down in Florida. However the rules may of changed between now and last year so just use this as reference, Please use the contracts you get when you check-in for the official rules.  The porgram will go over the rules with you during the housing meeting during check-in so you do not sign this blindly.

Here they are, click the pages to make them bigger/readable:

Check-in Day 1 and Day 2

Alot of you are probably wondering what is going to happen after you arrive for check-in at Vista Way. What are you going to be doing? how do you know where to go? Well.. Hopefully this post will answer this. If this year is the same as years past, when you arrive, you will receive your College Program Resource Guide. On the back cover there are the list of places you will need to go while checking in.

here is the Back cover of the Guide from last year. NOTE! this could have changed between now and then, but this will give you a good idea of what you will go though when you get there as it should be closely the same. Click thumbnail for a much LARGER readable photo. The blur is personal info I have covered up.

Along with the list on the back cover, there will be lots of signs, a painted line on the ground and lots of College Program Recruiting Cast Members (some you may recognize as the recruiter who came to your school) to help you out on your way.

Questions? post a comment and I’ll do my best to answer it :)

Networking

This is a post/reply I just made on the DIS board about networking opportunities while on the program, I thought I would post it here in case you missed it ;) (the start of it is worded weirdly because it is actually a reply to someone who said there was not many opportunities for networking on the program when they did it in the fall of 2002):

——————————

I just wanted to add in that between my first CP (Spring 02) and my last one ( last fall, Fall ‘05) the opportunity for networking has increased dramatically. The Disney Learning Centers (formally Centers of Excellence) have put together a series of networking opportunities for Cast Member to take advantage of. Two of these events they hold are Career Incites and a Speaker Series.

Career incites is where they get a leader from some department to hold a semi-informal presentation about what they do, how they got there and they offer advice on what is the best way to obtain a role like theirs. And at the end of the 3-4 presentations I went to they were more then happy to stick around and answer any questions that anyone may have and give out their contact info if there are any more questions (or if you wish to continue to network with them).

The Speaker Series is some what the same thing, but its a bit more formal setting with some of the more higher ups in the Parks division.

These two events happen almost weekly somewheres on propriety (in a conference room in one of the parks or hotels). If your going on the program, watch for the Learning Center monthly calender (which the CP will mail to your apartment, or you can pick it up at any career center or on the cast portal)

But like with anything, you have to make the effort to attend these events and introduce yourself to people. The program/company will not do this for you but most managers and other leaders are more then welcome to sit down and talk with you and connect you with people they know in the parts of the company that interest you.

Living

So your traveling a few hundred or even a couple thousands of miles to Florida, and you are wondering where you are going to end up living. Well thanks to Micosoft's new maps program (Local Live) you can see the apartment complexes in very good detail from the air (click Bird eye's view). You can check them out here: http://local.live.com/?v=2&cid=2BD43752192E2B72!108

I have added a pin to each of the three housing complex's club houses (where you go if you have a large package, need some cleaning supplies, have housing issues, etc) and to the Vista Way Pavilion where the first stop of your check-in will be.

If you would like to know where anything else is, leave a comment and I'll place a pin there for you.
